Why he’s hot: Joe works as a music agent for the New York-based office of Creative Artists Agency with clients including Norah Jones, Amos Lee, Gladys Knight, Crosby Stills and Nash, and Jackson Browne. Learn how Joe plans and coordinates all aspects of his clients’ live tours in North America, including intensive preparation and planning with managers, social media marketing, tour sponsors, and economic forecasts. Joe will talk about the live music industry and all the behind-the-scenes things that happen prior to a concert.

Why he’s cool: Joe’s involvement with WHRW and Pipe Dream as a student had a profound impact on him and his career, and he still stays in touch with fellow alumni. Joe met his wife at Binghamton and his daughter (age 23) and son (20) help keep him exposed to new music. He’s a successful Binghamton University alumnus willing to share his advice and insights with you!

She also created MelibeeU, offering innovative and inspiring online training for global educators and students. Her work challenges us to explore the world and ourselves (MelibeeU = beeU= BE U!) and challenges the status quo in international education. The Melibee Global Education Consulting Blog, recently featured as the GoAbroad! Blog of the Week, “encompasses the idea of starting with a fresh piece of paper and coming up with new ideas, whether it’s inspiring interviews on world topics with international educators, tips for travelers, questioning the norm in international education work, or sharing inspiring stories for future global citizens and international educators”. Ronald J. Strauss ’76, MS ’77 will be the speaker for the 25th annual Abraham J. Briloff Lecture Series on Accountability and Society at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, March 29, 2012, in the Chamber Hall of the Anderson Center at Binghamton University. This event is free and open to the public.

Strauss is Assistant Professor of Accounting at the School of Business at Montclair State University and has more than 25 years of global accounting and business experience primarily in the financial services industry.

During his career, he served in a variety of leadership positions, including president and CEO of Merrill Lynch Japan, and COO of Merrill Lynch International, where he was responsible for joint venture and business expansion efforts in 10 countries. His current academic research is focused on questions related to accounting ethics, such as ethical aspects of the global financial crisis and the role of executive compensation and governance. The lecture is titled “Ethics and Global Financial Crisis – Values Nourish Sustainable Markets.” He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from the School of Management at Binghamton University, and his doctoral degree from Rutgers University.

The annual lecture series is named in honor of Professor Abraham J. Briloff, the Presidential Professor of Accounting and Ethics at Binghamton University and Emanuel Saxe Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Bernard Baruch College. Over his long and distinguished career, Professor Briloff has been recognized as the ethical conscience of the accounting profession.
